A weekend where embraces matter and stereotypes are optional.

Berlin has a flourishing queer & open role tango scene, including the milongas Atípica, MilongAMIGA, Tango zum Glück, Weibermilonga and the annual Queertango Festival. It also harbors a diverse tango scene in general, with 4 to 11 milongas every day of the week. We invite you here, to return or to arrive for the first time, and to share your tango with us.

El Contrapunto is a tango marathon for queer and open role dancers of varying levels of experience and diverse styles of dancing. We value a social, cheerful atmosphere as well as a respectful ronda.

Registration

Our Venue: Junges Tanzhaus Berlin

Our marathon home is a historical building: It was built in 1850 as a brewery, because … what can you expect from this city?! The current inhabitant though, Junges Tanzhaus Berlin, is a newly opened space in Berlin-Neukölln, dedicated to a variety of dance forms and community participation.

Junges Tanzhaus focuses on bringing younger generations into dancing. While this is part of our own journey as well, we of course are looking forward to a mixed age group at the marathon. And having more space also means that we can potentially accept more dancers – while keeping the role balance and the shared intimacy of the event in mind.

• Space to relax indoor and outdoor (gallery, garden)
• Located next to a huge park (Hasenheide)
• Ventilation system
• Easy to reach by public transport (U Hermannplatz)
• Accessibility (e.g. elevator)

We are thrilled to call this beautiful venue the new home of El Contrapunto Marathon since 2026. For us it’s the perfect space for dancing, connecting and celebrating queer and open role tango. We can’t wait to fill it with your energy and your embraces!

Here’s a few preliminary pictures – more will follow when the venue is a little more settled with its new project. And no, no worries – that gray mat won’t be on the floor during the marathon.

Music & DJs

El Contrapunto features traditional tango music with tandas and cortinas. You’ll also listen to a tanda from a modern orchestra from time to time, depending on the DJ. But nuevo and non tango music is not our style

Food & Drinks

We want you to feel well-fed and happy during your time with us! That’s why we offer a delightful selection of savory and sweet snacks, along with complimentary water, coffee, tea, and a variety of beverages—both alcoholic and non-alcoholic—all included in the marathon price.

We are committed to providing a diverse array of high-quality snacks, primarily sourced from local vendors. Many of these culinary delights are lovingly prepared by members of our community, ensuring that you enjoy not just great taste but also a sense of local pride.

Our culinary curator and catering genius is Julia Stefanski.
